Crispy Garlic Soy Tofu

Ingredients
  

  • 14 ounces extra -firm tofu, drained and pressed
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarc h
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 3 tablespoons low -sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hone y
  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
  • 2 garlic cloves , minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds
  • 2 tablespoons green onions, thinly sliced

Method
 

  1. Wrap tofu in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy weight on top for 15 minutes to remove excess moisture.
  2. Cut the pressed tofu into 1-inch cubes.
  3. In a large bowl, toss the tofu cubes with cornstarch until evenly coated.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat.
  5. Place tofu in the skillet in a single layer and fry for 8 to 10 minutes, turning occasionally until all sides are golden brown and crispy.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger.
  7. Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet with the tofu.
  8. Toss the tofu continuously for 2 to 3 minutes until the sauce has thickened and glazed the cubes.
  9. Remove from heat and garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions.
